What to Know About the Possibility of Increased Car Tariffs in Japan

November 20, 2018

Each year, the U.S. imports goods from Japan — from clothing to cars, the U.S. gets a lot of its goods from Japan. In fact, imported goods from Japan amounted to $132.2 billion in 2016 alone. But with talk of increasing tariffs on auto exports from Japan by President Trump, the number of imported cars was threatened. But fortunately, it seems these higher tariffs are less likely now.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and President Trump agreed to start trade negotiations. These negotiations are predicted to end in protecting Tokyo from Trump’s proposed 25% tariff on imported cars and auto parts like used Japanese engines and transmissions.

The Prime Minister will have to navigate U.S. demands in order to open up Japan’s agricultural sector. Currently, American agricultural goods entering Japan face much higher tariff rates than other countries.

A statement from both Washington and Tokyo said the two parties were aiming for “a United States-Japan Trade Agreement on goods, as well as on other key areas including services, that can produce early achievements.”

Do You Need a New Japanese Engine or Transmission?

Regardless of tariffs, having access to Japanese engine imports is still important for Japanese car owners. Having the right auto parts for replacements and repairs is essential for all car owners, no matter where they live.

This is why EngineWorld prides themselves in providing Japanese engine imports to California residents. In Japan, low mileage japanese engines are abundant due to the fact that car owners often sell their vehicles prematurely rather than pay for a required expensive inspection after four years. EngineWorld’s extensive stock of Japanese Domestic Market engines and transmissions are in like-new condition and are of the highest quality.

So what should you do if you think you need a new engine? Well for starters, you should ensure you actually need a new engine. There are several problems that affect a car’s engine but don’t necessarily mean you need a new engine. Taking your vehicle to get looked at by a professional will help determine whether or not you actually need a new engine.

And if the verdict is that you do need a new engine, call EngineWorld. We’re sure our inventory of 80,000 items will have exactly what you need. So make sure to keep updated with the talk of car tariffs between Japan and the U.S. and ensure you’re continuing to buy your auto parts from reputable sellers.
