These 3 Red Flags May Mean Engine Failure
When something is wrong with your car, it can sometimes be pretty difficult to figure out what the problem is. And because of this, car owners are often tempted to pay way too much for repairs or replacements for a simple problem. Car owners who are familiar with engine troubles are better equipped to solve the problem themselves. Before you buy Japanese engines right away, here are a few common problems that could be impacting your engine function.
The exhaust is producing smoke: Your exhaust produces fumes, but it should never produce smoke. Fortunately, it can be pretty easy to tell what’s wrong by the color of the smoke. Dark blue smoke could be caused by worn or damaged parts, like valve seals, and there is oil leaking into the combustion chamber. Grey smoke could mean there are problems with the transmission fluid or your engine is simply consuming too much oil. And dark or black smoke, which is most common, means the car is burning too much fuel. This could be a result of a worn air filter, clogged fuel injectors or fuel lines, or another type of mechanical failure.
You car is driving roughly: For the most part, your vehicle should drive pretty smoothly. So if you notice your engine is stuttering, shaking, or even stalling, that’s definitely a problem. This may happen because of worn spark plugs, low fuel pressure, or even damaged ignition coils. But this also could mean the engine is simply failing and needs to be replaced. So if repairs can’t be made, look into used Japanese engines and transmissions for an economical replacement option.
There are strange smells: While running cars don’t have the best odor, you shouldn’t be noticing any bad smells, especially like something is burning. Your car may produce odors for a variety of reasons: oil could be leaking, exhaust gases may be stronger than usual, or the drive belts may be loose or damaged. So if you notice any strange smells, make sure to get the engine looked at.
